Turn on Highlight from the module Tools area. Press H to toggle highlight mode from the keyboard.

Add and remove highlights

  1. Turn on Highlight.
  2. Select text in the question stem.
  3. Release the pointer or finish the keyboard selection. LearnTerms applies and saves the highlight.
Click an existing highlight to remove it. Press Ctrl+Z on Windows or Command+Z on macOS to undo a highlight change made during the current study session. Highlighting applies to the question stem. It does not mark answer choices or the rationale.

Saved behavior

  • Highlights are private to your account.
  • They are saved by question and appear when you return.
  • The on/off preference follows your account.
  • A question can hold up to 80 saved highlight ranges.
  • If a contributor changes the stem, LearnTerms hides highlights from the older version instead of placing them on the wrong text.

Why use it

  • Isolate qualifiers such as most likely, except, or first.
  • Mark values, units, time course, and laterality in clinical stems.
  • Reduce rereading during long questions.
  • Leave visual anchors for later review without changing the question.
Highlight only the words that change the decision. Marking most of the stem removes the benefit.
